  • Adult & Child Stevie Ray Improv

    Learn to think on your feet, gain self-confidence, have fun and improve your skills for work, home or school. No experience necessary. If you think, “This is just for young folks,” the majority of our adult students are in their 50s and 60s, and the oldest was 93! Classes are taught by instructors from Stevie Ray’s Improv Company, one of the longest running improv theaters in Minnesota. The class culminates with a recital for family and friends at Stevie Ray’s Comedy Cabaret, located at the famous Chanhassen Dinner Theatre! The class culminates with you performing a recital for family and friends at Stevie Ray’s Comedy Cabaret, located at the famous Chanhassen Dinner Theatre! Students will finish off their program by having a recital at Chanhassen Dinner Theatre for their friends and family. Audience members will be charged $5 to come and watch the recital. This goes towards the staff of Stevie Ray for hosting the show and Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. Once a recital date & time has been determined, the Program Manager will reach out with further details.   • Babysitter Training

    Learn leadership, safety, basic care, first aid and rescue skills to become the best-certified babysitter on the block! Must be 11-16 years of age as of the day of class. Please bring a peanut and tree nut-free lunch, a snack, and a beverage to class. Students receive an MCE certified babysitter bag with a handbook, CD, activities, and first aid kit. Certification received: American Red Cross Babysitter Training Certificate (valid for 10 years).

    Join the ultimate “sport of the mind”! Sharpen your strategy, solve hundreds of puzzles, and master 50+ lessons—all while having fun with friends in your school’s chess club! New and returning students are invited. Class time will typically be divided between 30 minutes of chess group lesson and puzzles, 30 minutes of game play.   • Holiday Chess Tournament

    Grades K-5 Get your zugzwang on and battle top chess minds from across the metro! Play six thrilling rounds against players your age and skill level—strategy, focus, and fun all in one tournament! Fee includes: Pizza, snacks, beverages, six rounds of play and all awards. Team Trophy: Schools must have at least four players from their school in order to compete. We take the best four scores from each school and combine them. The school with the highest combined score will receive the TEAM CHAMPION TROPHY. We will have a runner-up trophy for the second place team. Individual Tournament: Students will play six rounds against students of similar grade level. We reserve the option to combine or separate grade levels based on the number of participants. Swiss Play: Participants are matched against others of similar skill level and grade. If a player wins more games, they will play other players who have won more often as well. By the 6th round, we will have a clear champion. Medals & Trophies: Trophies are given out to 1st through 5th place in each grade level category. Medals are given out based on performance. Every student will get either a trophy or a medal by the end of the day. Official USCF rules will apply. Some games may be timed. An email with specific event details will be sent out the week of the tournament. For students in grades K-1, we recommend parents stay with their student at the tournament. These life skills provide students with the confidence to approach challenges in their lives and realize that they can succeed in almost anything! Engineering for Kids has a library of 300+ individual lessons which continues to grow so we never have to repeat lessons. Fall 1 Lessons (classes beginning in September): Order may vary. Environmental Engineering Fall Homes Learn about some different ways animals prepare for winter and will use the Engineering Design Process to design a den that keeps an animal safe in the winter. Construction Engineering Corn Maze Use the Engineering Design Process to design and build a corn maze with a start, a finish and a path that connects them. Acoustic Engineering Kazoo Students will experiment with sound and make their own kazoo. Structural Engineering Fall Harvest Learn how scarecrows are used to protect food that is growing and will use the Engineering Design Process to design a scarecrow that can stand up to fall weather. Mechanical Engineering Treat Dispenser Students will learn about simple machines and design a simple treat dispenser. Civil Engineering Fall Fort Students will learn about the importance of a strong base to support a building and will use the Engineering Design Process to design and construct a fort. Fall 2 Lessons (classes beginning in November): Order may vary. Environmental Engineering Wind Turbine Students explore renewable clean energy resources like wind energy, learn how energy can be transformed and design a wind turbine that uses energy transformation to lift a small object. Aerospace Engineering Striking Snowflakes Students will learn what an aerospace engineer is, what a meteorologist is and land a snowflake on a target. Sports Engineering Hit the Slopes Students will learn what a sports engineer is, how friction and design impact a sled and which will slide the furthest. Wind Engineering Windsock Students will understand the movement of an object in relation to the wind direction and will construct a windsock to show the movement of air. Environmental Engineering Hurricane Students learn about how hurricanes form and spin and will use the Engineering Design Process to design and build a model of a hurricane. Mechanical Engineering Wheelbarrow Students learn how simple machines do work for people and will use the Engineering Design Process to design a machine that helps lift and carry a heavy load.
