Join us and learn how to play guitar this summer! We will learn to read notes through tablature, the staff, chords, and strumming techniques. Participants will need to bring in their own guitars.

Welcome to our beginner saxophone camp! Learn the basics including breath support, tone production, scales, and articulations as we prepare you for playing in a band. Participants will need to bring in their own saxophone.

All brass instruments are welcome as you learn more about the fundamentals of brass playing to improve tone production, range and overall technique.

Attention drum, piano, strings, guitar, woodwind, and brass students! Join us as we explore traditional and contemporary Chinese music using the Numbered Musical Notation, a format commonly used in Chinese compositions.

Through the small group setting, we will learn how to take care of your new instrument, touch up note-reading skills and other music terms before school starts. All classes are held in the Media Center at Minnetonka Middle School West (MMW). The Media Center should not be used as a waiting area for families during the class. Keep your instruments tuned up and get a head start on your return to orchestra in the fall! This summer orchestra experience is an opportunity to play with your classmates and other orchestra students in the district. Through fun, full-string-orchestra pieces, we will refresh the skills you learned in 4th grade and get your fingers, instruments and bows ready for the new techniques and skills to come in 5th grade. The Beginning Summer Chamber Orchestra is specifically targeted toward Minnetonka orchestra students who have completed 4th grade orchestra and are registered for 5th grade orchestra this fall. However, any beginning string student who has been playing their instrument for one year is welcome to join. Please come prepared on the first day with: your instrument, bow, and necessary accessories. Please also set aside time to practice at home during that week. Students must attend all four sessions of this performance-based program. The final performance will be on the last day at 3 p.m.

This fast-paced, exciting workshop is perfect for you if you love to sing and want to develop your voice further. Learn a variety of songs including musical theater and jazz selections. We will also explore the skill of vocal improvisation (scat singing), beatboxing and singing two notes at the same time using harmonic overtones. At the end of the week, we will put on a public concert showcasing our work. Participants from past years are encouraged to join us again as the music is never the same from year to year. All ability levels are welcome!
