  • Crash Course for College Students

    Are you ready for college? In our 3-hour Crash Course for College Students, you will prepare for academic success in the college setting. Key concepts taught include: Strategies for active reading, listening, and retention Goal setting and attainment How to avoid procrastination Focus, concentration, endurance, active listening, active learning Test-taking strategies Self-advocacy: How to discuss educational needs with instructors Strategies to stay focused and motivated in class How to access and receive accommodations from special services Note-taking in lectures Academic reading strategies Planning, organizing, and managing time Best study strategies to prepare for classes and tests After this 3-hour session, you will have the knowledge and confidence to get their college career off on the right foot. You will have a notebook that you created of the study skills and strategies learned in class to reference throughout the year. You will also have your own written academic goals with an action plan to achieve these goals.
  • Head Start Algebra

    Learn the skills needed to have a successful year in Algebra 1. You will review last year's concepts, learn effective note-taking and study strategies for math success and you’ll get a head start on this fall’s Algebra course. You will leave this course with a notebook of learned concepts organized in the manner taught in class so it can be used as reference throughout the school year. Please note: This class can be paired with the Study Skills class immediately following it.
  • Head Start Geometry

    Learn the skills needed to have a successful year in Geometry. You will learn effective note-taking strategies for math success, brush up on last year’s learning and get a head start on this fall’s Geometry course. You will leave this course with a notebook of learned concepts organized in the manner taught in class so it can be used as reference throughout the school year. Please note: This class can be paired with the Study Skills class immediately before it.
  • Jumpstart Math & Reading: English

    Review essential reading and math skills before the new school year. You will work in small groups(3-6 students) to brush up on grade level material, all in English! Please note: the grade level refers to the grade the child is entering in the 2024-25 school year.

  • Study Skills

    Learn how to set & reach academic goals, effective note-taking methods, strategies for retaining learning, reading comprehension strategies, how to increase focus and on-task behaviors, how to stay motivated during the school year, how to create great work habits and more. Please Note: There is a Head Start Algebra 1 immediately before this class and a Head Start Geometry immediately after for any student who wishes to do both.

    This class provides instruction and coaching to increase your study skills for higher achievement in middle school and beyond. Students will learn how to: set realistic goals and achieve them organize their school work maintain focus during lessons and study time get their work done by due dates study effectively for tests take and organize notes for learning plan for long-term projects and stay motivated throughout the school year Students are welcome to take these as stand alone sessions or as part of a two-session series. In Session 1 the main focus is on learning the strategies and in Session 2 it is on applying them and making them a habit. Session 1 - Wednesdays, Sept 11-Oct 9. Session 2 - Wednesdays, Oct 23-Nov 20. Session 1 - Wednesdays, Dec 4-Jan 15 (no class 12/25 & 1/1). Session 2 - Wednesdays, Jan 22-Feb 19.
