Enhance your skills in a fun and competitive environment in this dynamic basketball training program. Skills include ball-handling, shooting, passing, and defensive techniques. You will have the opportunity to improve your game, learn new strategies, and compete with other players of similar age and skill levels. Designed for beginner to intermediate players, learn the skills you need both on and off the court to be a better athlete. All equipment provided. Each day will start with a “skill of the day” and progress into drills and games. For more information on Skyhawks, please click here!

Immerse your athlete into the world of basketball! They’ll experience an engaging introduction to basketball through fun drills and mini-games. Players will learn dribbling, passing, shooting and defense in a positive environment. Athletes should bring a water bottle. Balls are provided. Parent participation is required for the 2-3 year old age group and recommended when needed for the 4+ year old age group.

This developmental program introduces young athletes to the sport of basketball. The goal is to build fitness, muscle coordination and basketball fundamentals to create a love of the game. For more information on Skyhawks, please click here!

These co-ed small group sessions focus on the fundamental aspects of basketball training. Our program emphasizes conditioning, functional movement, and footwork to enhance defensive and offensive skill sets, including ball handling, shooting, and finishing moves, and 1-on-1 competition. Develop your dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive skills with Tonka Rec Basketball. Practice and game times are 1-hour in length (30 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game), with varying start times between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Groveland Elementary, Minnetonka Middle School East/West, or Scenic Heights Elementary. If your child's age group is in "waitlist" status when you register, it means that teams are full or the registration deadline has passed. Please complete the registration to be placed on the waitlist (your credit card will not be charged unless you are placed on a team). You will be contacted by Community Education if we are able to get your child on a team. If you register after November 3 and your child is placed on a team, a $30 late fee will be assessed, and teammate requests may not be available. Fee: $129 if registered on or before November 3. $159 if registered after November 3. Team Formation: Teams will be formed based on gender, grade level, school attendance, availability of volunteer coaches and teammate requests. Players may request to be placed on the same team as one other player when registering. Teammate requests will be taken into consideration providing the player you request also requests you. Only one request per player is allowed. Please note that although we try to accommodate these requests, they are not guaranteed. Coaches Needed!: Have fun coaching your son or daughter and teammates! We'll provide curriculum, support and training. A virtual coach meeting will be on November 21 at 7:00. Coaches should be able to attend most Saturday practices/games and the coach training. Please note your interest in coaching during the registration process. Uniform: Players will receive a team t-shirt. Players should wear athletic clothing and non-marking gym shoes. Players are required to bring a junior-size basketball (27.5 or size 5) to each practice/game. Minnetonka basketballs will be available for purchase at Minnetonka Community Education Center starting in early September. Hoop Height: 8 Feet Refunds: Refunds, minus a $10 cancellation fee, will be given for cancellations received on or before November 3. Referees Needed! Take your game to the next level and improve your basketball skills with Tonka Rec Basketball. Practices are 1 hour during the week with varying times and dates. Game times are 1 hour on Saturdays, with varying start times between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at varying locations in the west metro. Uniform: Players will receive a team jersey. Players should wear athletic clothing and non-marking gym shoes. Players are required to bring a basketball to each practice/game. Grade 6 boys & grades 6-8 girls use an intermediate-size basketball (size 28.5). Grades 7-8 boys use a full-size basketball. Minnetonka basketballs will be available for purchase at Minnetonka Community Education Center in early September. Refunds: Refunds, minus a $10 cancellation fee, will be given for cancellations received on or before October 6. After this date, refunds will be issued only in the case of injury. Referees Needed!
