Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, this will be an exciting and challenging basketball experience for all! Skills include ball-handling, shooting, passing, and defensive techniques. Designed for beginner to intermediate players, learn the skills you need both on and off the court to be a better athlete. All equipment provided. Each day will start with a “skill of the day” and progress into drills and games. For more information on Skyhawks, please click here!

Immerse your athlete into the world of basketball! They’ll experience an engaging introduction to basketball through fun drills and mini-games. Players will learn dribbling, passing, shooting and defense in a positive environment. Athletes should bring a water bottle. Balls are provided. Parent participation is required for the 2-3 year old age group and recommended when needed for the 4+ year old age group.

Experience the NBA with a well-rounded basketball class covering a broad range of skills training and skill-based games. Players will be taught how to properly shoot, pass, dribble and play defense in a fun and positive environment. Each player has the option to purchase a customized Jr. NBA jersey of their favorite team with registration. Athletes should bring a water bottle. Balls are provided. Learn beginner-level concepts through age-appropriate cooperative play and fundamental basketball. You will learn the basics of footwork, triple-threat position, ball handling, shooting form, passing, man-to-man defense and basic game rules. Communication is essential, so you will also learn how to work with others in small group games. Develop your dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive skills with Tonka Rec Basketball. Practice/game times are one hour in length (30-minute practice followed by a 30-minute game), with varying start times between 8 AM and 5 PM at Groveland Elementary, Minnetonka Middle School East/West or Scenic Heights Elementary. If your child's age group is in "waitlist" status when you register, it means that teams are full or the registration deadline has passed. Please complete the registration to be placed on the waitlist (your credit card will not be charged unless you are placed on a team). You will be contacted if we are able to get your child on a team. If you register after November 2 and your child is placed on a team, a $30 late fee will be assessed, and teammate requests may not be available. Fee: $129 if registered on or before November 2, $159 if registered after November 2. Team Formation: Teams will be formed based on gender, grade level, school attendance, availability of volunteer coaches and teammate requests. Players may request to be placed on the same team as one other player when registering. Teammate requests will be considered, provided the player you request also requests you. Only one request per player is allowed. Please note that although we try to accommodate these requests, they are not guaranteed. Coaches Needed!: Have fun coaching your son or daughter and teammates! We'll provide curriculum, support and training, including a preseason virtual meeting. Coaches should be able to attend most Saturday practices/games and the coach training. Please note your interest in coaching during the registration process. Uniform: Players will receive a team t-shirt. Players should wear athletic clothing and non-marking gym shoes. Players are required to bring a basketball (1st Grade - Size 4 or 25.5"; 2nd Grade - Junior or 27.5") to each practice/game. Take your game to the next level and improve your basketball skills with Tonka Rec Basketball. Practices are 1 hour during the week, at a day and time TBD for each team. Grade 6 boys & grades 6-8 girls use an intermediate-size basketball (size 28.5). Grades 7-8 boys use a full-size basketball. Minnetonka basketballs will be available for purchase at the Minnetonka Community Education Center in early September. Refunds: Refunds, minus a $10 cancellation fee, will be given for cancellations received on or before October 5. After this date, partial refunds will be considered in the case of injury.
