  • Elementary Summer Math by Mail

    Looking to review and enrich your math skills this summer? Math by Mail lets you take your math enrichment everywhere you go this summer. Let’s crunch some numbers! For Students Entering Grades 1-5 Review and enrich math skills and concepts with this individualized correspondence course. After completing each week's lesson, mail it back, and we'll make corrections, provide comments and send it back to you. Entering Grades 1-2: Math by Mail has been developed to review and enrich math concepts. The curriculum is designed exclusively for students just completing kindergarten or students just completing first grade. Summer Math is not a tutoring program and it is not designed to advance students ahead. It offers the practice of previously learned concepts to keep skills sharp and build confidence. Participants will receive a pretest to determine math skills and individualize their program. Then they will receive ten weeks of lessons. After they have completed a week’s worth of work, mail it in and we’ll make corrections, provide comments and mail it back. Students work at their own pace. Kids love receiving their returned assignments each week in the mail! When all lessons are completed, students will receive a certificate of achievement. Entering Grades 3-5: Keep your math skills sharp over the summer! This 10-week correspondence program was developed by a veteran teacher. Materials that students will cover during the summer review support concepts they have encountered during their previous school year. Summer Math is not a tutoring program and it is not an enrichment program to advance students ahead. It offers practice of previously learned concepts to keep skills sharp and build confidence. Students will take a pre-test and fill out a questionnaire to individualize their program. Students will then receive nine weeks of materials. Each week’s packet will include five math lessons with problem-solving activities. The activities will apply to a specific math concept or strand. After the student has completed a packet, they will mail it in. We’ll make corrections, provide feedback and mail it back. Students may start and finish the course at their own pace throughout the strands. When all lessons are completed, students will receive a certificate of achievement.   • GRASP

    Looking to continue your learning this summer? GRASP will help you retain your math and/or reading skills this summer. Only one hour a week will get you ready for school in the fall. GRASP (Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program) is a 9-week correspondence program that helps you retain math and/or reading skills during summer vacation. Lessons are completed, mailed or emailed to a scoring center and returned to you. This correspondence program can accompany you on your summer travels! Lessons take approximately one hour per week to complete. Instruction sheets in each packet provide all the necessary information for parents to help their children. Pricing: Online (emailed): $39/ one subject; $69/ two subjects (same child). The option is only available for students entering grades 5-9 in Fall 2021. Paper Booklet (mailed): $29/ one subject; $55/ two subjects (same child). Why GRASP? Our program is uniquely designed to provide encouragement and reinforcement to students over the summer by providing feedback weekly, providing help on problem areas and awarding successful work. Using the GRASP materials helps students recall information learned during the school year over the summer.   • Head Start Algebra

    Learn the skills needed to have a successful year in Algebra 1. You will review last year's concepts, learn effective note-taking and study strategies for math success and you’ll get a head start on this fall’s Algebra course. You will leave this course with a notebook of learned concepts organized in the manner taught in class so it can be used as reference throughout the school year. Please note: This class can be paired with the Study Skills class immediately following it.

    Learn the skills needed to have a successful year in Geometry. You will learn effective note-taking strategies for math success, brush up on last year’s learning and get a head start on this fall’s Geometry course. You will leave this course with a notebook of learned concepts organized in the manner taught in class so it can be used as reference throughout the school year. Please note: This class can be paired with the Study Skills class immediately before it.
  • Jumpstart Math & Reading: Chinese

    Review essential reading and math skills before the new school year. You will work in small groups (3-6 students) to brush up on grade level material, all in Chinese! Please note: the grade level refers to the grade the child is entering in the 2024-25 school year.

  • Middle School Summer Math by Mail

    Looking to review and enrich your math skills this summer? Math by Mail lets you take your math enrichment everywhere you go this summer. Let’s crunch some numbers! For Students Entering Grades 6-8 Support and review concepts encountered in the previous school year in this 8-week correspondence program. Completed packets are mailed in for feedback and corrections and will be mailed back to students. This 8-week program includes a pretest/questionnaire to individualize students' experience. Packets include up to three concepts, vocabulary and/or problem solving skills that align with the Minnesota State Math Standards. Registration deadline: Tuesday, June 4th
  • Study Skills

    Learn how to set & reach academic goals, effective note-taking methods, strategies for retaining learning, reading comprehension strategies, how to increase focus and on-task behaviors, how to stay motivated during the school year, how to create great work habits and more. Please Note: There is a Head Start Algebra 1 immediately before this class and a Head Start Geometry immediately after for any student who wishes to do both.
  • Summer Skills Review Books

    Maintain your math, reading and language skills this summer. The included answer sheets allow you to work at your own pace—no need to mail anything to a scoring center. This program is written in accordance with the national standards. It is recommended that students spend approximately one hour per week on packets. These packets are designed to review material and maintain skills, therefore you should register for the grade you are in for the 2023-2024 school year. Why Summer Skills? Requiring only 20 minutes per day, 3-4 times per week, for ten weeks means kids will actually do them. Their single-subject focus reinforces important subject matter while pinpointing areas of weakness. The mixed-skills concept ensures that a variety of concepts is reviewed in each lesson. They include all answers for immediate feedback. Our books meet or exceed all state standards and the Core Curriculum. The books focus on the subject matter, not games or busy work.
